If Born This Year

How Many Ancestors Do You Have?

Assuming 23 years per generation

Notes For Table Below:  Circa is a rough approximation to a midpoint year during the generation.  Near Historical Event is an attempt to show some important event during that generation. Gen is the number of generations back.  It should be kept in mind that this is also the number of fathers required to give a child today its last name.  Mating Parents is the number of people who were involved with mating during a particular generation that lead to the person born this year.  Total Ancestors is the total of all generations from this year back to the generation in question.

For example: It can be seen that in 1770 (about the time of the American Revolution, 1776), which was only about 11 generations back, 2,048 people were producing off spring that would lead to a child born in the year 2000.  Plus it can be seen that all totaled 4,094 people were required to produce the 2000 from circa 1770 to today.  But, the most amazing thing is, it only took 11 men to give today's child his or her last name.  What traits were given by the other 4,083.

If you will notice the number of parents in the generation of 1066 a legitimate question might be, "how can researchers honestly say that they have found THE common link to modern man in any prehistoric site."  The remains of our ancestors are everywhere.
